Discharge Compliance
Category: Wastewater

Need: Discharge compliance
Customer: Magazine printing company
Challenge: Reduction of copper in a waste stream

With copper concentrations exceeding discharge limits, the customer is facing fines and possible revocation of their discharge permit. A wastewater treatment firm recommended a solution which was capital and space intensive. Having neither the budgeted capital nor the space, the WaterProfessionals are asked for another opinion. An ion exchanger utilizing a selective resin having a strong affinity for copper is recommended. The WaterProfessionals provide the system on a rental basis to avoid the need for capital outlay. Space requirements are only 42" x 42". The process assures copper is recovered and recycled rather than disposed of in a landfill, thereby limiting the customer’s environmental liability.
